This Mexican clay bird is one such art piece. Hailing from Tonala, a city in Mexico long known for its clay folk art, this handpainted owl is a one-of-a-kind work that represents the talent of an entire community.

Unlike Frida, whose name and art are synonymous, the work of many Mexican folk artists in this area unfortunately most often go unattributed. Predominantly seen in the travel souvenir shops and markets where painted clay constitutes all sorts of handicrafts that are both functional and decorative, these clay figurines can be found in a variety of bird shapes from doves to chickens to owls and much more.

Just like cooks in the kitchen, no two Tonola clay birds are ever exactly alike thanks to their handpainted style. That makes them really fun to collect and unique art pieces to display. This owl has the cutest expression. With her tilted head, big eyes and beautiful flower painted on her back, she's a work of art from all directions.

Every kitchen could use a little sage. This one looks marvelous perched on a shelf where she can cast all sorts of wisdom over the daily goings-on.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Colors include beige, terracotta, light grey, peach, mustard, white, slate and black

- Handpainted

- Mexico mark on bottom

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition.
