Lotus Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Hawthorn Red Berries

This lotus scroll painting offers the hawthorn red berries theme as the old painters understood it: balanced, breathing, complete. The brush moves at an unhurried pace, and the picture shows it. Among pieces of ink wash painting, this is the quiet kind: balanced, calm, and easy to live with.

A few columns of characters lend the scroll its scholarly finish. The bird appears as a small pleasure of the composition, easily missed and worth finding. Gongbi fine-line technique underlies the picture's precision. The seal's red square is the picture's quiet exclamation point. Against the silk ground, the red berries reads clearly at any distance. The hawthorn motif is worked into the composition with classical restraint.

Collectors of chinese painting for home decor will recognize the vocabulary at once: restraint, balance, and a feel for the natural world. It brings the outside world in, in the quietest way possible. Morning light flatters it; harsh sun should be avoided.
